Second Stop: Your School If there aren’t any opportunities to take yoga classes in your community, why not talk to your teacher or principal? Maybe if they knew that kids were interested in such a program, they would look into offering it during the regular school day or even as an after-school program. Third Stop: Your Library If you run into a dead-end in stops one and two, then go to your school or public library. Look for books on yoga that you can check out. Search for DVDs or videos that you can borrow.
The great thing about yoga is that you don’t need to attend a class to do it. You can even beneﬁt by doing the poses here and there throughout your day. Say you have a big test that you have to take at school. Before the teacher passes out the exams, close your eyes at your desk and do some deep breathing exercises. Be mindful of your breath—or in other words—really think about your breath and only your breath. Don’t think about the test and your fears about it. Just think about your breathing and how the oxygen is ﬁlling every part of your body.
