Agriculture accounts for only 15 percent of GDP and a somewhat lower share of merchandise exports. The major export crops are cotton, sugar and coffee, and cereals and oilseeds are imported. Peru has a key location in the region. Bordering on Colombia, Ecuador, and Bolivia, as well as on Brazil and Chile, Peru could in the future play a central role in market integration in the region.

Options and Strategies Colombia faces a critical decision in agricultural trade policy. Pressures are building for a reversal of the policies introduced with the reform.
